About

Hi, I’m Tracy–welcome!

I live in beautiful Breckenridge, Colorado with my husband Rob, our rescue dog Macy, and cat Oberon. After decades of corporate careers in Austin (me in HR project management, him as a lawyer), we moved to the mountains to embrace an active, outdoor lifestyle. We still work, but we do our best to make time for skiing, hiking, camping, paddle-boarding, and—of course—cooking!

Why I started this blog

I’m not a trained chef—not even close!  My culinary journey began only after we moved to Colorado.  Driven by a craving for the diverse cuisines we missed and couldn’t easily access here, I started cooking regularly.

As Rob and I hit middle age, I wanted to make our meals healthier to match our lifestyle.  Sharing food photos on social media led to friends asking for recipes.  Before long, they said, “You should have a website!”  So, here we are.

My cooking style

My grandmother’s cooking was rooted in Southern traditions and my mother followed her lead. A spoonful of bacon grease was Mom’s flavor base for everything from green beans to minute steak—as well as every recipe that started with, “Sauté onions in a skillet.”  Not gonna lie, it tasted good!  But that diet catches up with you after a while.

My cooking now is a world apart: plant-forward, with plenty of fresh veggies, healthy fats, and whole foods.  We eat fish often, poultry occasionally, and pork and beef rarely.  I make homemade bread, especially sourdough, and we’re big fans of good, affordable wine.

I believe in starting with wholesome ingredients and making them pop with spices, herbs, and simple techniques.  In our kitchen we like things spicy, but you can always adjust to find your flavor.  My goal is to inspire you to do just that—experiment, explore, and discover what tastes great to you.

Why “Eye On Flavor?”

First, because I focus on flavor—if it doesn’t taste good, why bother?  But the name is also a playful nod to being monocular.  When I was a senior in high school, a friend and I were broadsided by a drunk driver.  My friend didn’t survive.  I barely did.  Along with broken bones and other injuries, my right eye was irreparably damaged.  The experience left me with a deep sense of gratitude and determination.  I approach cooking and life with a “don’t give up” attitude—whether it’s perfecting baking bread high up in the Rockies or simply savoring every moment!

Thank you for visiting my blog.  If you like it, please share it with your friends.  Let’s cook!
